 Meteorite Crater in Arizona

We left the Grand Canyon and David HAD to go see the Meteorite Crater.  So we paid $30 to see a hole in the desert.  Funny thing is, I was reading a book later on the trip and it mention this crater!!

We camped in a KOA in New Mexico.  The owner offered a menu for dinner (great prices and a variety of items).  She cooked and brought dinner to our camper-  winner winner!! The next morning there was a continental breakfast before hitting the road.

The next 3 days were spent travelling through Texas.  Texas has windmills, farm land, and oil wells.  That is until you hit the cities--then it is HUGE traffic lanes/bridges/over and underpasses.

We spent the first night in Amarillo, Texas.

The next city we stopped at was San Antonio.  Don't take your RV that is pulling a truck through the city looking for The Alamo.  We were lucky to get out of there without hitting anything.  We did come back into town with just the truck and could find parking to visit the Alamo.  We also went to the River Walk and had dinner.

The next 2 days were long days as we ended up going to Houston instead of Dallas to meet David's half brother, Don.  They had the same dad but had never met.  Don was 67 and an only child. David has 3 other brothers and a sister.

We spent the night in Galveston Bay, Texas right on the bay.  We felt right at home being on salt water again.

Then we headed for New Orleans, Louisiana.  It had bad mojo....

When I called the KOA, I was told that the road to the KOA was blocked because of Octoberfest.  He gave me directions how to get around this.  I didn't have a good feeling about this situation, so I called the KOA again when we got closer to our exit.  He gave me more explicit directions but he neglected to tell me one important part!!  And because of this neglect we ended up in the wrong area and David had to turn around.   And this is where it gets BAD!!

He turned down a dead end road.  You can't back up the RV when towing a truck.  So David continued down the road hoping for a place that we could turn around.  He got to the end of the pavement and took a dirt path behind a car dealership that bordered on a large canal hoping it looped around.  It didn't.

He had to unhook the truck and back it down the path.  And then back the RV and tow dolly down this narrow path with cars on one side and that BIG canal on the other.  This took a VERY long time to get everything turned around and connected.  Of course we still had to find the KOA.

Once there at the campground, David decided that we still could drive in to New Orleans and have dinner.  We were cursed by some lady that was riding on the shoulder on the road and ran out of road....  then we were almost run into the guardrail at the exit because a truck cut us off.  We haven't made it to New Orleans yet.

We got lost in the city for a while.  That was fun at night in the wrong parts of town.  FINALLY, we got a parking place and started walking toward the French Quarter.  We were crossing the street and a car was waiting at the median to make a U turn.  As we almost reached the median, the driver GUNS the car and almost hits us.  In fact, I really thought David HAD to have been hit.  Can I tell you how much I dislike New Orleans???

We did get to the French Quarter and had a wonderful dinner- having 3 Hurricane drinks helped my nerves!!  Bourbon Street was totally CRAZY!!  Everyone was dressed in Halloween costumes and it was a mass of humanity.

The next day we took the KOA shuttle in to New Orleans for the day.  We walked over 7 miles looking at the sights.  We took a 2 1/2 hour brunch cruise on the steamboat.  That was nice.  We had about an hour before being picked up by the shuttle.  That's when a lady decided to jump into the Mississippi River!

David was emptying his pockets to go in after her.  A man talked the woman into holding on to a pylon.  She kept letting go and he kept saying "Lord, she's gonna drown".  Since we were by the steamboat, they brought a life ring and threw it down to her.  A man had gone out to her and helped her back into shore.  She was yelling and preaching at everyone.  She walked away before police to get to the boardwalk.  David followed her and tried to talk/detain her but "she didn't need any help".  She clearly need to be evaluated but that didn't happen.   Again,  this is one city that I don't ever want to visit again.

Our last stop was at the campground at South of the Border in South Carolina.  It was a really nice campground--we were very surprised!

And now we are home!  Thanks for reading my blog and traveling with us these past 2 1/2 months.  We had a GREAT time (except for NOLA)!!
